People’s March for Education Justice – NYC

Here is a march demanding that Andrew Cuomo give the state and city billions in promised education funding, end the state’s reliance on testing and invest more in social workers and other support staff for schools statewide that will start at the Trump International Hotel. How does this relate to Trump? Keeping up pressure on Andrew Cuomo is a backdoor way of increasing pressure on Donald Trump, by reminding him to keep acting like a liberal in the run up to his probable run for presidency.
NY Doesn’t Welcome You

There’s going to be a pro-Trump rally in front of Trump Tower this weekend. So, of course there’s going to be a counter-demonstration against Trump supporters and against the president himself, reminding him that New York thinks he’s the worst. Bring some signs telling him that his hometown doesn’t want him around, and maybe if enough people show up he’ll just decide to go anywhere else in the future. Maybe he can take his entire family to DC and they can close off the streets there !

March 4th for Standing Rock

The Water Protecters’ camp at Standing Rock may be gone, but since the Dakota Access Pipeline project was revived by the Trump administration, the fight against it will continue. A week before a mass nationwide action against the pipeline, the city will host a rally and march from the New York Public Library to Trump Tower in support of the Standing Rock Sioux and their right to clean water.
Fundraiser for Planned Parenthood of Indiana & Kentucky

Here in New York, we’re at least doing kind of alright as far as women’s health and a woman’s right to choose are concerned (we could be doing much better!). So, here’s a chance to help out Planned Parenthood in states whose leadership is interested in controlling women’s lives through the restriction of what they can do with their bodies. A $20 donation will get you a custom sketch from fashion illustrator Jennifer Lilya, but that’s not all! There’ll also be a raffle with prizes like tickets to Avenue Q, a private yoga session, a variety pack of vegan jerky and much more. Plus, importantly, there will be alcohol.
Rapid Response Network: Open House for Crown Heights/ Bed Stuy

If you find yourself trusting the state less and less, here’s a chance to help build a support network for vulnerable people that doesn’t rely on its institutions. Today’s meeting will focus on how to build a Crown Heights and Bed-Stuy network of “rapid responders,” people who are building a network of support personnel to help people with mental health crises, basic first aid, defense against Immigration ICE raids, hate attacks, and participate in copwatching.

Ain’t no party like a propaganda party cause a propaganda party lives forever through its messaging. Drop by the Interference Archive on Sunday for a chance to learn all about a bunch of groups who are fighting the Trump administration, and pick up their various propaganda in the form of stickers, flyers, buttons and other message-spreading goods.

And if you would rather make your own propaganda instead of picking up stuff other people made, here’s the place for you. Not only is this an opportunity to hang with people while you make signs for the Women’s Strike, but an artist and designer will be on hand to show you how to make “inexpensive, durable, NYPD-compliant protest signs that get your message across.” As someone whose terrible handwriting has made his protest signs look more comical than effective propaganda, this seems like a great service.
#NotInOurCity peaceful vigil against attacks on JCCs

An arrest was made for a handful of the bomb threats called in to JCCs across the country, but keep in mind this instance was seen as a copycat crime, there are still almost 100 unsolved cases and there are also the instances of Jewish cemetery desecration. So, come out and stand with the nation’s Jewish community in a one hour silent vigil against hate.
Unity In Diversity Rally
Sunday, March 5th, 4 p.m., Queens Borough Hall, 120-55 Queens Boulevard
Things are heating up a bit in Queens, although it’s not like that’s unique to the borough. Still, it’s as good a time as ever to stand with your fellow Queens residents in a show of unity and a defense of the borough’s diversity. Queens Borough President Melinda Katz and a number of other elected officials, community and religious leaders and residents will gather together for a reminder that the diverse mix of traditions in the borough help make it a stronger place.
How The Left Can Win Elections

Protests are fun and you can meet some cool people and also get some exercise if it’s part of a long march. But! Don’t forget that the ultimate goal is to actually win some elections and exercise political power. How do you do that though? Well, maybe Zak Wear of the Richmond Progressive Alliance can tell you a thing or two about that, since this event is literally called “How The Left Can Win Elections.”
